Ideally, the railgun would be firing 30mm rounds at 6,000rpm. Because #Freedom

I wholeheartedly support this proposition.

.....what do you mean the guy who proposed it is Canadian?

..I'm going to have to change my stance on this issue

Eh, wouldn't fit (especially the power supply), and it'd probably tear the plane apart first time it was fired.

Now, fitting one to a C-5 or surplus 747? That might work.

man that things scares me, in a good way. It only makes sense for ships though at this point for many reason, least of which is power. What a great tool though, could you image how much safer warships would be without power rooms? much.

Well the railgun is being developed for and paid for by the US Navy, so the chances of that being deployed on a US Air Force aircraft are slim to none. Also the last word of the matter is that the Air Force plans to retire the A-10 since it is slow, ugly, and well—suited for it's job.

Make sure to move here when you can, it's really fun.

Also, I can't go to the ULTRA AMERICAN SUPER GRAND PRIX TEXAS FUCK YEAH so I've settled for the Montreal GP. If you live anywhere near there I'm robbing you.

When their contractor figures out how to make it work, sure.

Why not a CIWS?

DoD policy is to kill things that don't cost a lot of money and can run a long period of time without costing money.

The A-10 is flown exclusively by the United States Air Force.

Thank you Swine, I was perfectly aware of that.

And I didn't say the Navy would be flying the A-10s. I simply said the Navy should put a railgun in the A-10.

We simply said the A-10 is flown by the Air Force. That Railgun looks like a light and easy to re-locate piece of tech, it will probably easily be attached to a 50,000 LB aircraft without effecting maneuverability or performance. Smart idea.

The fact that you're actually taking the idea of attaching a railgun to a A-10 says it all.

Lighten up, Francis. No need to be snarky about it.

I'm former USAF TACP and I spent a year hadji hunting in the sandbox. Nothing saved more asses during my time there than the hog. Once you put some 30 mike mike ordinance in hadji's face he doesn't have much fight left in him. The grunts love the hogs. So do the pilots. I once saw a 120 lb. Captain bring in her hog that had been pumped full of holes so bad the hydraulics had been cut. Try to do that with an F-22. But grunts fight wars, Generals don't and nothing gives AF Generals wood like fast and sleek. That's why they've tried to axe the A-10 several times despite it's usefulness to the warfighters and with the new austerity measures having to be met they've finally found the time to do it.

With that logic, nobody should take anything you say seriously. Got it.

Sorry, I'll stick with serious and grounded in logic ideas from here on out to satisfy your idea of what this place should be.

Have you considered that that rate of fire out the front would make the plane stop in mid-air and start moving backwards?

Kinja'd!!! Victorious Secret > davedave1111

Kinja'd!!!1

You would balance that problem by having 2 guns pointing backwards.

Firepower AND boost mode in one.
